Wisdom Teeth
At Cardinal Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, our board certified oral surgeons are able to perform third molar, or wisdom teeth surgery, at each of our office locations. The surgeons can also use anesthesia to provide more comfort for the patient during the third molar surgery. Oral surgeons receive extensive training in anesthesia and are able to provide these services at our office, without a need to go to a separate surgery center. To schedule a consultation with one of our board certified oral surgeons, please contact our offices at: Port Orange: 386-756-2580, Palm Coast: 386-445-0555 or Titusville: 321-607-6900.
What are wisdom teeth?
Third molars are commonly referred to as wisdom teeth. They are usually the last teeth to develop and are located in the back of your mouth, behind your second molars. Their development is usually completed between the middle teenage years and early twenties, a time traditionally associated with the onset of maturity and the attainment of wisdom.
The ideal time to have a wisdom tooth consultation is just before getting your braces off or around age 15 or 16. The ideal time to remove impacted wisdom teeth is when the roots are about 2/3 formed, lessening the chance of sinus and inferior alveolar nerve injury. Only a consultation with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon can help determine the appropriate time for your specific case.
